Addressable Spend
Addressable Spend represents the portion of an organization's expenditure that procurement teams can potentially influence or optimize. Unlike total spend, addressable spend excludes categories where procurement has limited control, such as taxes, regulatory fees, and certain internal transfers.
Characteristics of addressable spend include:
- Potential for supplier negotiation and competition
- Ability to implement strategic sourcing approaches
- Opportunity for specification or demand management
- Capacity for process improvement and automation
- Potential for contract consolidation or restructuring
Procurement organizations typically focus their resources on addressable spend categories, where strategic initiatives can yield the highest return on investment through cost reduction, value improvement, or risk mitigation efforts.
